isn't this what artists are usually messaging? if you focus on external rewards (materialism, status), you're never going to find a meaningful purpose in life. burnout may be a result of "going nowhere," but what job takes you "somewhere?" even the most successful person will tell you that when they reach their goals, they still face uncertainty. for all the so-called progress humans have made - agriculture, mass production, the internet - one could argue that those endeavors only sent us in a certain direction. maybe the problem is our destination. why do we need one? why are we always trying to go somewhere else? what's wrong with where we are now? what's wrong with planet Earth, besides the fact that we're destroying it with our constant "work?" I hope humans use reason for more than justifying their actions. I hope we use reason to question ourselves. or maybe that's what the artists do for us.
